TDI is a core product of the isocyanates product group, which can be utilized in the most universal and successful way. Flexible foams produced from ONGRONAT ® TDI are mainly used in the furniture and automotive industries. This product is of utmost importance for the future of the company, since it has the potential to yield significant sales revenues and at the same time it is not exposed to the cyclic nature of the chemical industry.
The TDI Business Unit facility of 60 ktpa was commissioned by the company on December 12, 2001. Following debottlenecking projects, the nameplate capacity reached 90 ktpa by 2006 and the company became a major player of the European market. Our market position has been improved by continuous operation of the crystallization unit producing TDI isomers (TDI 65/35 and TDI 100), which had been put into operation in 2002 in order to meet the special demands of our customers.
TDI production signifies an important progress for the company as both isocyanate products (MDI, TDI) have become more prevalent compared to the company’s other products since 2002. The company’s strategy introduced in 2006 calls for world scale expansion projects in TDI as well as MDI, increasing TDI capacity up to 300 ktpa.
